Bobby Fischer, 13, of 560 Lincoln place, Brooklyn, last night won the U.S. Junior Chess Championship, conducted at the Franklin Mercantile Chess Club, 1616 Locust St.
Bobby, the youngest player in the tournament and the youngest in history to win the championship for players under 21 years, scored 8½ to 1½ to defeat 28 participants from 13 States and Canada. He is a member of the Manhattan Chess Club and has been playing chess since he was 8 years old. He said he expected to compete in the U.S. Open Chess Tournament at Oklahoma City, July 16 through 28.
Charles Henin, of Chicago, and Arthur Feuerstein, of New York, were in a tie for second place with scores of 8-2, followed by Sydney Geller, of Philadelphia, with 7-3.
