Greater New York Open: Winner of the Greater New York Open championship, held Jan. 20-22, is William Lombardy of New York. He tied with Dr. Ariel Mengarini, also of New York, each scoring 6-1. Medien points determining the winner. Arthur Feuerstein (New York) and Edgar T. McCormick (East Orange, N.J.) 5½-1½ each came third and fourth, respectively, by Medien tie-breaking. Anthony Saidy and Robert Fischer, both of New York, followed with 5-2 each. There were 46 entries.
The Class A Cup was won by McCormick, and Bobby Fischer (age 12) won the Class B trophy.
Reshevsky Exhibition: Players are reminded that reservations to play in the simultaneous exhibition to be given in Vancouver by grandmaster Samuel Reshevsky sponsored by the B. C. Chess Federation, are limited. Applications for boards should be made as soon as possible to BCCF president R.A. Pilkington … Reshevsky is scheduled to play 40 games simultaneously at Alma Hall. … Incidentally, 50 players already have applied for the 40 boards available for Reshevsky's display in Victoria Feb. 14! How about that, Vancouver, and other mainland enthusiasts?
