Reshevsky Victor In Chess Play Here
While Samuel Reshevsky, winner of the third Lessing J. Rosenwald trophy tournament at the Manhattan Chess Club, completed his schedule by winning his last game last night, Arthur B. Bisguier, the United States champion, finished in second place by defeating Abe Turner in forty-six moves. Bisguier's totals were 7-4, comprising five games won, two lost and four drawn.
Reshevsky, who had a score of 9-2, defended an English opening against Edmar Mednis, who lost a pawn at the thirteenth move. The international ace kept up the pressure, captured a second pawn and won handily.
Bisguier, too, gained a pawn advantage and was able to drive a wedge through the center, against which Turner could make no stand. He conceded defeat after forty-three moves.
Arthur Feuerstein, thanks to a well-earned point at the expense of Max Pavey, raised his score to 6½-4½. This will entitle him to third prize, unless he is overtaken by Donald Byrne. Byrne adjourned his game with Herbert Seidman, who, with queen opposed to knight and rook, was thought to have the better outlook.
Eliot Hearst won in forty-one moves from Bobby Fischer and Sidney Bernstein drew against George Shainswit. The tournament will end tonight.
