Bisguier Is Upset In U.S. Open Chess
Fischheimer, Chicago, Wins to Tie 6 for Lead With 3-0 Score at Oklahoma City

Oklahoma City, July 19‐Daniel A. Fischheimer of Chicago upset Arthur B. Bisguier of New York, the United States titleholder, today in the third round of the open championship of the United States Chess Federation.
Bisguier, with the black pieces, was denied the initiative and, endeavoring to enforce it, went astray. Fischheimer, won in good style and joined six others in a 3-0 tie for first place.
James T. Sherwin and Paul Brandts of New York were among the leaders. Sherwin won from Philip Morrel of Kansas City and Brandts defeated E. J. Van Sweden, Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The others with 3-0 scores are Derwin Kerr, Cranford, N. J.; Bob Steinmeyer, St. Louis; Jack Shaw, Albuquerque, N. M., and Geza Fuster, Toronto.
Anthony F. Saidy and Anthony E. Santasiere, won, but Edmar Mednis was held to a draw. These three New Yorkers, at 2½-½, were tied by Jack O'Keefe, Ann Arbor, Mich.; A. Di Camillio, Philadelphia; Ivan Romanenko, Washington; Ray Martin, Santa Monica, California; Orest Popovych, Lakewood, N. J., and Steven J. Shaw of Gainesville, Florida.
Others with plus scores are Jeremiah F. Donovan, Brooklyn, 2-0 (one adjourned), and Bisguier, Col. J. J. Araiza, Mexico; Bobby Fischer, Brooklyn, and Kamalakar Raut, Bombay, India, 2-1 each.
