Seidman Chess Victor
Byrne Beaten in Final Game of Rosenwald Tournament
The Lessing J. Rosenwald Trophy tournament at the Manhattan Chess Club was completed last night when Herbert Seidman won his adjourned game from Donald Byrne. Seidman scored in fifty moves. Byrne thereby was prevented from creating a tie with Arthur Feuerstein for third place.
At the time of adjournment, Seidman had a queen against a rook and knight. In addition, each had a pair of connected passed pawns. Those of Seidman moved faster and decided the issue.
Byrne was tied for fifth in the standings by Sidney Bernstein and Abe Turner with scores of 5½—5½. Seidman, with 4½—6½, moved up to deadlock Bobby Fischer for eighth place.
