Two Leading Chess Entries Play to Draw
The first and second place leaders, and also the first and second-seeded players in Oklahoma's City U.S. Chess Federation national open chess tournament, fought it out Friday night and settled for a draw.
Arthur Bisguier, still in first place with a total of nine points, deadlocked with Robert Sherwin, still in second with 8½ points.
The twelfth and final round in the tournament begins Saturday at noon in the Civic room of the Biltmore hotel and the awards will be passed out immediately following the last match.
Tied for the No. 3 spot in the meet are Steinmeyer, Saidy, Mednis, Theodorovitch, Di Camillo and McCormick. All six have an even eight points for the tourney.
Thirteen-year-old Bobby Fischer drew a master player, S. Popel of Detroit, to stay in a fourth place tie. Sonja Graff, the women's champ, won her match Friday night, and was in a first place tie among the women with Mrs. Selensky of Philadelphia, Penn.
