Feuerstein Takes Title: New Yorker Triumphs in U.S. Junior Speed Chess Play
Philadelphia, July 4 — Arthur Feuerstein of the Manhattan Chess Club today won the national junior speed chess championship in the United States Chess Federation tournament at the Franklin Chess Club.
As one of the six finalists in a field of 18, the New Yorker scored 4½—½. Bobby Fischer, with 4—1, was the runner-up and William Lombardy, 3½—1½, placed third. Francois Jobin of Quebec tied at 1½—3½ with A. Rudy of New York. Sanford Greene of New York was sixth.
Fischer, the youngest competitor, leads with a score of 4½—½ in the national junior championship. Charles Henin of Chicago is tied for second with Sidney Geller of Philadelphia. Each has 4—1.
Dennis Blake of New York, 3½—1½, is in a tie with Thomas S. Levine of Port Washington, N.Y. and George Baylor of Hollidaysburg, Pa. Feuerstein, with a score of 3—2, is level with Jobin, David Kerman of Detroit and Charles Weldon of Milwaukee.
