Feuerstein Holds Reshevsky To Draw
Having established a safe lead in seven rounds of the Lessing J. Rosenwald trophy tournament, Samuel Reshevsky was content with a twenty-five-move draw in the eighth round at the Marshall Chess Club last night.
Reshevsky's opponent was Arthur Feuerstein, the national junior speed champion, who played on the black side of a Benoni counter gambit. The draw was the first of the tournament for Reshevsky, who leads at 6½-1½.
Bobby Fischer, a 13-year-old expert from Brooklyn, defeated Donald Byrne of Ann Arbor, Mich., a former national open champion.
Fischer adopted the Gruenfeld defense and made one startling move after another. Byrne resigned at midnight after forty moves.
The United States champion, Arthur Bisguier, won from Max Pavey, the Manhattan Club champion, in twenty-nine moves. Edgar Mednis triumphed over Sidney Bernstein when the latter overstepped the time limit.
Herbert Seidman, the Marshall Club champion, won from Abe Turner in forty-five moves and Pavey captured his adjourned seventh-round match with Eliot Hearst.
